Meeting #13

11:10am - 11:43am

Topic: Proposal Report & Website Improvement

The group discussed advances in the proposal report and errors that needed fixing. The software module needs to be added to the Specifications Table. OpenCV documentation is to be added to Progress Log. Small alterations to the software block diagram. Reverse chronological order for the Progress Log and Weekly Meetings pages. Chapters 1 and 2 of the reports require tweaks.

Meeting #12

4:04pm - 5:03pm

Topic: Proposal Report

The group discussed advances in the proposal report and errors that needed fixing. Professor Ejaz helped the group to better visualize the goal of the project. Work that needs attention is grammar, as well as the position of items in the report. More needs to be done with the organization of topics.

4/9/2021

Meeting #11

11:06am - 12:14pm

Topic: Proposal Report & Website Improvement

The group discussed advances in the proposal report and errors that needed fixing. Professor Ejaz helped the group polish the use of the microphone in the project and discussed the importance of having a good understanding of OpenCV when presenting the project. The professor emphasized the importance of what the group is bringing to the project and how they will further the code.

4/2/2021

Meeting #10

11:06am - 12:14pm

Topic: Proposal Report & Website Improvement

The group discussed different ways to implement image recognition software to the project that would bring a completely new and innovative aspect to the Pool Pal. It was also discussed that an app for the project would be crucial but an in home console was not necessary anymore. The group is moving away from using sensors to detect disturbance in the water and now moving more towards just using a camera to detect the people and pets around the pool area.

3/25/2021

Meeting #9

11:09am - 12:08pm

Topic: Proposal Report & Website Improvement

The group reviewed the first chapter of the proposal report with Prof. Ejaz. There were some changes needed to the first chapter but the report progress is ahead of schedule. Prof. Ejaz also suggested that a battery with less power would be more efficient for the project. The group is starting to look at other batteries to fix this issue. After looking at the similarities to other similar products in the market it was decided that taking a different approach to the project would be the wisest option. Professor Ejaz suggested that the group needs to invest time in researching the imagine recognition software to add to the project.

3/18/2021

Meeting #8

11:04am - 12:02pm

Topic: Proposal Report & Website Improvement

The group discussed with the professor a possible addition of an AI detection for people struggling in the pool. Also Prof. Ejaz suggested that the group begins writing the proposal report. Corrections on the website were discussed to add more information and clarity to things such as the the pins necessary to the microprocessor and to allow to customization if needed.

3/04/2021

Meeting #7

11:05am - 11:31am

Topic: Idea Discussion & website improvement

The group discussed with the professor additions to the project to improve clarity. The project idea should be well known when someone looks at the site. Portions of the site that require updates include the abstract, homepage, engineering requirements, 3D render, and test plan.

2/25/2021

Meeting #6

11:09am - 11:45am

Topic: Idea Discussion

The group discussed with the professor on possible additions to the project such as camera which is not attached to the main box. This would give the user a better vantage point of the pool. Also discussed on ways to water-proof the project and the components. Dr. Ejaz mentioned that a ventilation system would be key for this project since it will be exposed to the heat. Since the exposure to the sun will be a certainty then solar panels would be very useful to supply some power and extend the life of the battery and its charge.

2/18/2021

Meeting #5

11:02am - 11:43am

Topic: Idea Discussion

The group discussed with the professor possible cameras that could be used on the project and also some more possible information that could be displayed by the sensors. The group is looking into adding a temperature sensor and an oxidation sensor so that it can use a formula to measure the chlorine in the water. Also, the group is focusing more on a home console for the user than an app since the home console will be used far more often than an app. The website has been progressing along with many changes being made to the budget and power budget as the group continues to research on parts to increase the usefulness of the project.

2/11/2021

Meeting #4

11:00am - 12:00pm

Topic: Idea Discussion

Discussed about adding a few more features for the Pool Alert project to have some similarities to a previous project made by another group. Possibly bringing some of the features to bring more complexity to the project. Dr. Ejaz also explained about the power budget, estimated power budget and the differences between engineering requirements and the specification table. Website is coming along with some minor work needed on the home page, possibly having an abstract description of the project. Professor wants the group to do some research on how much power, voltage and current the parts will be using.

2/04/2021

Meeting #3

11:01am - 12:05pm

Topic: Idea Discussion

The website needs some work on the References tab. Look on information about sensors needed for the Pool Alert idea. Look for statistics on drownings in the past 10 years. Look into making the project float in the pool. Possibly put LED lights to give it a unique look. Professor likes a loud sound on phone if detector is triggered. Thinking about making an app that can work with the device.

1/28/2021

Meeting #2

11:01am - 11:50am

Topic: Idea Discussion

The website requires more work and effort. Look into possible sensors for vacuum idea and look into ways of implementing components to make vacuum autonomous. Further research must be done on idea number 3 in order to proceed. Otherwise, research new ideas to present for next week. Discussed the idea of portrait with face recognition software. Portrait idea needs more applications so possibly implement as a face recognition system for doors. If group decides to continue with vacuum idea there will need to be a prototype showing how the mechanics will work.

1/21/2021

Meeting #1

11:00am - 12:46pm

Topic: Idea Discussion

Our group proposed 7 ideas, as shown on the Project Ideas page. Idea numbers 3, 6, and 7 were picked as our most likely projects and require further research. Professor advised to research more on possible ways to have the vacuum from idea 3 go up the stairs. Also advised to add more distinguishing factors to pool cleaning unit. Our group was asked to look into the gain of the projects and if work justifies the gains.
